SECA invites you to register for "Dis is Wat it Muss Be Like!" with Simmy Zaret.

A child is struggling in and after school. He just doesn’t seem to grasp concepts as quickly as others and simply can’t keep up. He works hard! In fact, he has to work harder than anyone else in his class because for some reason, he just can’t understand what it is that’s being taught. He seems to have enormous difficulty coping in any program. He seems distracted, confused, and just doesn’t seem to listen! He is always getting himself into conflicts with the other children and always getting himself into trouble! Could it be that this child has special learning needs and requires a different approach? Could it be that this child has some kind of learning disability?

This workshop will dispel the myths and provide a concrete overview of some of the most common learning difficulties faced by so many children in our day cares and classrooms today. Through a variety of interactive activities, participants will have the opportunity to experience first-hand what it is like to actually have a learning disability of their own! As well, we’ll look at a wide range of strategies, accommodations and alternative approaches that can be used, in order to build a child’s self-esteem, demystify their struggles, and maximize opportunities for social, emotional, and academic success.

In this workshop, we’ll look at:

· Visual/Spatial Perception Deficits

· Auditory Language Processing Difficulties

· Conceptual Challenges

· ADD/ADHD Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder

· Autism

· Childhood Anxiety
